Spencer Ogden is supporting a leading renewable energy operator in the search for an Operational Electrical Engineer to join their central engineering team on a 6-month contract basis with potential for extension.
This role plays a key part in ensuring operational renewable assets achieve maximum performance, reliability, and value through strong technical governance and engineering support.
The successful candidate will work across the full asset lifecycle including operations, development, construction, R&D, and asset improvement projects.
Role Overview
The Operational Electrical Engineer will provide specialist electrical engineering expertise to support operational renewable assets, ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and reliability.
Working closely with Asset Managers, Engineering teams, and external contractors, you will investigate technical issues, support asset optimisation initiatives, and contribute to long-term engineering strategy across the portfolio.
This position will also support new project development through technical due diligence and engineering standards development.
Key Responsibilities
* Champion a zero-harm safety culture and ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements.
* Provide electrical engineering technical support to asset management teams on issues impacting asset performance.
* Assist in developing and implementing long-term maintenance strategies for renewable assets.
* Lead or support investigations into fleet-wide electrical technical issues and engineering risks.
* Conduct site inspections relating to technical issues, asset modifications, and engineering improvements when required.
* Prepare technical reports and recommendations for operational engineering programmes.
* Support technical incident investigations and non-conformance management.
* Identify issues affecting asset availability and generation and recommend engineering solutions.
* Assist in managing the engineering risk register and implementing mitigation strategies.
* Support contingency planning for major unplanned asset events.
* Contribute to strategic spares strategies across operational assets.
* Review and technically assess engineering modifications through change management processes.
* Support implementation of technical trials and asset improvement programmes.
* Conduct technical due diligence and field quality assurance on new renewable energy projects.
* Support the development of engineering standards and operational procedures.
* Interface with contractors and specialist engineering partners to resolve technical issues.
* Maintain technical records and contribute to knowledge sharing and lessons learned across the business.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications
* HNC in Electrical Engineering (or working towards an Electrical Engineering degree)
* Strong health and safety awareness; relevant H&S qualifications desirable
Experience
* Experience as an Operational Electrical Engineer or similar role
* Strong technical experience within renewable energy, power generation, utilities, or a similar industry
* Proven experience managing technical investigations, engineering issues, or improvement projects
* Experience managing change control on operational assets
Technical Skills
* Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and engineering practices
* Ability to analyse complex engineering problems and present clear technical recommendations
* Understanding of plant operation and its commercial impact on asset performance
