Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to be our interim Science (Chemistry) Teacher. This is a fixed term post from 6 January to 13 February 2026 for two days per week (0.4 FTE).

Hollygirt School aims to develop the whole child. We believe that academic progress and personal development are equally important to preparing children for life beyond school.

You will ensure that pupils are positively encouraged to develop their full potential both in curriculum lessons and extra-curricular opportunities.

You are expected to foster a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere within the department for both pupils and staff.

Job Description

Curriculum, Staff and Administration

* To liaise with all members of the Science department in the Senior School/class teachers in Prep School
* To contribute towards department development planning
* Track and monitor class data
* To be engaged with visits and events planned within and in conjunction with the department
* To maintain a stimulating learning environment within the classroom
* To participate in the school's appraisal and professional development arrangements

Pupils

* To act as a Form Tutor in Senior School as required
* To ensure that assessment is both regular and thorough and that full records of work done by pupils are kept
* To be responsible for the advice and guidance given to pupils when choosing courses, particularly in Year 9 and to assist with post-16 choices

Extra-Curricular Contribution

* Built into this role is an expectation of contribution to the extra-curricular programme in the school to facilitate the pupils' broader education and to offer opportunities for development in science.

* Proven experience in a similar role
* Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
* Commitment to building strong home/school links
* Commitment to developing the science curriculum
* Passionate about offering extra curricular activities
* Ability to plan and deliver exciting and thorough lessons adapted to the needs of all pupils
* Ensure Pupils make excellent progress

The salary will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Hollygirt School is an all-through, mixed independent day school for pupils aged three to 16. It used to only take boys to age seven, but is now fully co-educational.

The school has about 220 pupils and is located on the northern fringes of Nottingham city centre in the East Midlands. The school can trace its foundation back to 1877, although it relocated to its current base in 1913.

The school is split into three: early years (three to five-year-olds); prep school (seven to 11-year-olds); and senior school (11 to 16-year-olds).

Hollygirt School is a charitable trust under the name The Hollygirt School Charity. The trust is overseen by a small group of Trustees, who also act as governors of the school.

Hollygirt School's motto is: Ever Onward and Upward. It aims to provide pupils with a friendly environment where all children feel nurtured and valued.
