The candidate should have understanding of Autism and its challenges and be able to support in designing and organising a differentiated curriculum. Job Opportunity We have an exciting new opportunity for a Principal to work us in our School based in Barrowmore, Barrow, Chester. The school is a small provider, registered for up to 20 pupils. We provide the highest quality of educational services for students aged 7 to 19 years of age. The students are at the centre of everything we do. Our dedicated staff provide first class support. The education, health, and care work in partnership and we pride ourselves on having strong relationships in place with parents, carers and funders. This tried and tested approach ensures every iMap student reaches their optimum level of achievement. The school is an incredible place for children with complex needs arising from autism, behaviour difficulties and learning difficulties to thrive, learn new skills, grow in confidence and make new friends. We are currently looking for an inspirational and creative Principal lead the supportive education team at iMap Centre. Someone who: • Is passionate about delivering a challenging and exciting curriculum to all children • has an interest in and commitment to the development of SEN education • has experience of school improvement • is ambitious for the school and the children in it • can implement change while balancing continuous improvement with a respect for staff and their wellbeing We are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong leadership skills and inspiration, and invite applications from both experienced senior leaders and those with significant middle leadership experience. Reporting to the Director of Care and Education you will be responsible in providing professional vision and leadership for the school which secures its success and improvement ensuring high quality education for all its pupils and improved standards of learning and achievement. The Principal will be responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school. You will be a member of the Education Senior Management Team. You will manage staff and resources in the school and play a role in the direction of the education in regards to formulating and reviewing development plans, progress and aims and objectives of the school. If you have Autism, or alternative provision experience that will be an advantage, but not essential. You will lead on accreditation working with ASDAN and NOCN. iMap Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. It is expected that you will be the Designated Safeguard Lead for Children. All positions will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service including obtaining references. Strategic direction and development of the school: Leading by example, providing educational vision and direction to secure the strong passionate commitment of staff, parents/carers and pupils. Management of Staff • Deploying and managing all teaching and non-teaching staff and allocating particular duties to them (including such duties of the Principal as may be properly delegated to deputy head teacher or other staff member) in a manner consistent with their conditions of employment, maintaining a reasonable balance for each teacher between work carried out in school and work carried out elsewhere. • Considering in particular in relation to such allocation of duties how far the duties of the Principal may be delegated to any Deputy Head Teacher. • Ensuing that the duty of providing cover for absent teachers is shared equitably among all teachers in school (including the Principal), taking account of their teaching and other duties. • Ensuring that all teachers at the school receive information they need to carry out their professional duties effectively. • Ensuring that staff are aware of current educational developments and are kept up to date through an ongoing programme of continuous professional development. • Leading, motivating, supporting, challenging and developing staff at all levels in order to secure and sustain continuous improvement and staff well-being and to be committed to personal continuing professional development, • Supporting middle leadership of the school to build capacity, recognising existing talents and encourage delegation. • Challenging underperformance at all levels and putting in place effective procedures to deal with underperforming staff. Curriculum • Determining, organising and implementing a broad and balance curriculum for the school, having regard to the needs, experiences, interests, aptitudes and stage of development of the pupils and the resources available to school. Review • Ensuring that all aspects of school performance are monitored and evaluated in a robust, cyclical manner and maintaining a record of self-evaluation and areas for improvement, and of progress made in respect of these. Standards of Teaching and Learning • Supervising and participating in arrangements for the appraisal of all staff in the school. • Participating in the identification of areas in which a staff member would benefit from further training. • Ensuring all staff in school have access to advice and training appropriate to their needs, in according with the policies of the company. • Being responsible for the supervision and training of staff during their induction periods in according with the Probation policy. Pupil Progression • Ensuing that the progress of pupils of the school is monitored and recorded. • Ensuring continuing effective systems of planning, assessment, recording and reporting using data to monitor attainment and progress in every child’s learning. • Using data to continuously support and improve standards. Pastoral Care • Ensuring that the health and wellbeing of children is encouraged through a nurturing environment. Inclusion • Promoting equality and inclusion in all aspects of school life. • Ensuring that the requirements of the Code of Practice are met. Discipline • Ensuring that proper standards of behaviour are implement. • Making such measures generally known within the school. • Ensuring the maintenance of good order and discipline at all times during the school day when pupils are present on the school premises and whenever the pupils are engaged in authorised school activities, whether on the school premises or elsewhere Relationships with parents/Carers • Making arrangements for parents/carers to be given regular information about the school curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the school, so as to promote common understanding of its aims. • Creating and maintaining an effective partnership with parents/carers to support and improve pupils’ achievements and personal development. Relationships with Authorities • Providing for liaison and co-operation with the differing local authorities Resources • Allocating, controlling and accounting for those financial and material resources of the school which are under the control of the Principal. • Adhering to financial regulation Safeguarding • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young person they are responsible for or comes in to contact with. Health and Safety • Ensuring the health and safety of all children, staff, parents/carers and visitors.
