Job title: EC&I Engineer
Location: Royston, Hertfordshire, UK (Site based role)
This role is a 24‑month fixed‑term contract.
Overview
As an EC&I Engineer at Johnson Matthey, you’ll support the company’s mission as a leader in sustainable technology, accelerating the transition to net‑zero by managing and improving electrical, control, instrumentation, and safety equipment across the Royston site.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Senior Electrical Engineer and the Royston Engineering team in providing second level technical support for industrial EC&I equipment.
* Drive implementation and delivery of EC&I improvement plans to meet current and future business needs.
* Ensure compliance inspections across EC&I equipment (ATEX, Functional Safety, Gas Detection, Fire Alarms, Environmental Analyzers, Fire Suppression, Test Equipment calibration, etc.) are conducted and documented.
* Provide technical support to maintenance shift teams for root‑cause analysis of complex plant EC&I breakdowns.
* Own EC&I maintenance plans, embedding industry best practice throughout the plant.
* Ensure instrument loop calibrations satisfy ISO9001 and ISO14001 requirements.
* Work with the Senior Electrical Engineer to develop and maintain contingency plans for site control systems, instrumentation, and power distribution.
* Lead root‑cause analysis (RCA) of complex breakdowns and plant issues.
Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar EC&I role.
* Experience managing maintenance of industrial EC&I equipment in chemical, pharmaceutical, food, or related industries.
* Strong understanding of maintenance techniques and their application.
* Knowledge of applicable international standards (e.g., IEC60079, IEC61511).
* Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., COMAH, Chemical, Oil & Gas) is highly desirable but not essential.
* Proficiency in root‑cause analysis, maintenance planning, and regulatory compliance.
