Contract type: Part Time – Permanent

Location: Huddersfield, Huddersfield International Study Centre

Salary: up to £19802.80 per annum

Here at the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre (ISC), we pride ourselves in providing a supportive learning experience that prepares our students for the challenges of undergraduate and postgraduate study. We are dedicated to providing excellent academic and Engineering, Science and Computing (ESC) Department skills and knowledge that will enable our students to progress onto their chosen programme of study at the University and an eventual successful career. Our academic team enjoy a collaborative approach to Learning and Teaching by supporting each other in the planning, delivery and evaluation of our STEM programmes and modules content. ABOUT THE ROLE
1. Plan appropriate, effective, differentiated, and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work that promote equality and engage with diversity
2. Plan teaching sessions using learning outcomes found in modules’ specifications and accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources and methods including digital learning techniques
3. Ensure all learning materials are updated and available on the VLE for students to access and engage with
4. Participate in the development of module material and layout on the VLE as required
5. Apply the principles of learning to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all students
6. Select the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students’ progress
7. Contribute to the provision of a stimulating learning environment whilst adhering to the Centres’ Health and Safety and safeguarding procedures
8. Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, timely formative and summative assessment
9. Use a variety of consistent methods to check learning in lessons and periodically track and record students’ progress
10. Ensure that interactive assessment activities are available to students, face to face, online and via VLE
11. Provide regular and timely constructive feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
12. Prepare students for summative assessment e.g. exams, coursework, assignments, practical and/ or other required assessments methods
13. Engage in the timely preparation of assessment materials including the creation, marking, moderation and the entry of marks in the appropriate platforms e.g. Progresso and Trackers
14. Maintain continuous, up to date and accurate records of student attendance and progress
15. Respond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and needed application to their future studies, referrals to progress coaches or senior management as necessary
16. Support students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during progress checks
17. Support student with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve aspirational targets
18. Be available to offer support to students as required e.g. workshops, booster and revision classes
19. Support students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University Schools and their link tutors
20. Contribute to student progress reports in a clear, accurate manner using constructive language
21. Strive for students to achieve and attain high standards
22. Refer students for learning support where appropriate
23. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students in your care
24. Refer to support services where appropriate
25. Contribute to effective communication with stakeholders e.g. parents, sponsors, University and others as appropriate
26. Be aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of teaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material, including VLE contents, programme and module evaluation and subject team performance reviews
27. Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teaching
28. Convey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and students
29. Engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update subject specialist knowledge
30. Undertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing professional development
31. Comply with expectations of all professional conduct regulations
32. Use student feedback to improve personal performance
33. Work as part of the Engineering, Science and Computing Team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for students
34. Be prepared to operate on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the Engineering Team and the Centre as a whole
35. Be available to cover lessons for absent colleagues as required
36. Prepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events e.g. induction activity, progression, enrichment, University school events, award ceremonies, surveys and other activities
37. Promote a cohesive work ethic within the ESC Department, the Centre and the ISC network
38. Share best practice and contribute to the ESC Department Teams’ bank of effective resources/ideas/activities for Teaching and Learning and mentoring
39. Attend Department, Centre and Network organised events and meetings in accordance with provided schedules
ABOUT YOU
40. A Cert Ed, PCET or PGCE teaching qualification (working towards, or willingness to achieve)
41. Qualified to Degree level or professional equivalent in a relevant subject area
42. Desirable Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area.
43. Successful teaching, learning and assessment experience at level 3 and 4
44. Teaching experience at level 5 and/or 6 desirable
45. Thorough STEM subjects’ knowledge, most preferably in Computing subjects and Discrete Maths/Maths for Computing.
46. Experience of teaching International Students
47. Experience of developing learning and teaching through digital learning platforms
