Residential Child Care Worker

The Children's Residential Service provides a safe, nurturing environment for children in care. We work tirelessly to meet the needs of children within our homes and generate the best outcomes, while keeping them safe from harm. We pride ourselves on developing positive, meaningful, and lifelong relationships with our children, promoting fun activities, and supporting them to develop in all areas of life.

About The Role

Night staff have a significant and important role in our children's homes, working through the night while other staff are asleep. You will ensure the home is secure during the night and, if the children wake, have a friendly face to support them and deal with any issues. The role will involve working on a rota basis, including night shifts and weekends.

Qualifications & Requirements

* Understanding of the needs of children and young people and the relevant legislation surrounding their care.
* Excellent observational skills to monitor the children's well‑being and respond to issues effectively.
* Strong communication skills, and the ability to respond appropriately to challenging behaviour.

Key qualities: time to listen, actions to help, cooking skills, and the desire to spend time with the children.

Why join us?

By joining Lancashire County Council you can shape a career path that is right for you, gain personal and professional qualifications, and access a generous benefits package.

* A competitive salary, Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and optional Additional Voluntary Contributions.
* 26 days annual leave (rising with length of service), 8 Bank Holidays, 2 additional statutory Bank Holidays, and the option to buy additional leave each year.
* Staff discount scheme in partnership with Vivup, offering discounts across a range of UK retailers.
