Description UK Research & Innovation Salary: £45,272 per annum Band: UKRI Band E Contract Type: Fixed Term (2 Years) Hours: Full-time/ Part Time (minimum 0.6 FTE) (flexible working available) Location: Polaris House, Swindon/Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot/Daresbury (Hybrid working available) Closing Date: 26 th October 2025 Interview Dates: 11 th & 18 th November 2025 About the role This role plays a key part in shaping UKRI’s inclusive culture by leading disability inclusion initiatives that improve experiences for disabled colleagues and others with relevant lived experience. This includes a strong focus on disability, neurodiversity, and long-term health conditions, as well as where these intersect with other areas of EDI. The postholder will support the Workforce EDI Lead in embedding inclusive practices, improving accessibility, and ensuring UKRI meets its commitments under the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty. The role will directly support improvements in staff experience, organisational capability, and UKRI’s reputation as an inclusive employer. Your responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of key actions to support disability inclusion and employee experience, aligned with the wider EDI Strategy and Workforce EDI Plan Collaborate with, and provide expertise and advice to, cross-functional teams across UKRI to embed disability inclusion into core business policies, processes, projects and programmes Lead the development and maintenance of a Disability Inclusion Information Hub on the UKRI intranet and drive organisation-wide awareness, engagement and understanding of disability, neurodiversity, and long-term health inclusion. Design and deliver training, toolkits, and practical guidance on disability, neurodiversity, and workplace adjustments, with a focus on building line manager confidence and capability to support disabled staff effectively. Lead work to support UKRI to progress to Disability Confident Level 3 (Leader status) and coordinate audits and a Disability Smart self-assessment, building the evidence base, engaging stakeholders, and supporting teams to develop forward-looking improvement plans that embed disability inclusion across the organisation. Work closely with the Disability Matters Network and other employee voice groups to ensure lived experience informs policy and practice. Strengthen UKRI’s evidence base for disability inclusion by improving data collection on disability, neurodivergence, and long-term health conditions and contributing to statutory and internal reporting, including the Workforce Equalities Report. Personal Specification The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I). Essential Deep understanding of disability, neurodiversity, and long-term health conditions, and their intersection with wider EDI frameworks (e.g. Equality Act 2010, Disability Confident), enabling the development of inclusive policies and practices that improve staff experience and meet UKRI’s legal and strategic commitments (S&I) Experience leading or contributing to disability inclusion initiatives within complex organisations, resulting in measurable improvements in accessibility, inclusion, and organisational capability (S&I) Ability to work collaboratively across functions and with diverse stakeholders, co-producing solutions informed by lived experience to embed inclusion into everyday practice and build trust across UKRI (S&I) Skilled in designing and delivering training, guidance, or resources that build confidence and capability in embedding inclusion, supporting managers and teams to better support disabled colleagues (S&I) Competence in using data and lived experience insights to inform actions, evaluate impact, and contribute to reporting, strengthening UKRI’s evidence base, its reporting and driving continuous improvement in disability inclusion (I) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to engage, influence, and build trust with colleagues at all levels, ensuring disability inclusion is championed and embedded in strategic and operational decision-making (I) Ad: Disability Inclusion Manager Are you committed to creating inclusive workplaces where disabled colleagues, neurodivergent people, and those with long-term health conditions can thrive? We’re looking for a collaborative and inclusive Disability Inclusion Manager to help UKRI become a Disability Confident Leader and embed disability inclusion across our workforce. In this role, you’ll work closely with colleagues across HR, Estates, IT, Communications, and our staff networks to ensure that disabled staff, neurodivergent colleagues, and those with long-term health conditions are supported, valued, and empowered. You’ll lead UKRI’s progression to Disability Confident Level 3, coordinate the Disability Smart self-assessment, and develop practical tools, training, and resources to build inclusive capability across the organisation. You’ll also play a key role in strengthening our evidence base, improving accessibility, and ensuring that lived experience informs our policies and practices. You’ll bring: Strong knowledge of disability, neurodiversity, and long-term health conditions, and how these relate to equality and inclusion. Experience driving positive change for disability inclusion. Ability to work collaboratively and build trust with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. Skill in developing practical resources and delivering training to support inclusive workplaces. Confidence using data and lived experience to inform decisions and measure impact. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
