Purpose of the Role
As the Head of Family Services, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across GHFA's family services division. You will directly lead our assessment centres, develop new service lines, and play a pivotal role in ensuring excellence, innovation, and commercial growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
· Lead and inspire a team of 35–50 staff across residential and community-based family services.
· Develop and implement innovative service frameworks within the first 90 days.
· Act as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on all family service matters.
1. Operational Excellence
· Oversee the launch of our third residential family assessment centre by Q3 next year.
· Ensure new services become operational within six months and achieve £200k turnover.
· Drive growth to £400k by the end of the first year and £1m–£1.5m turnover by the end of the second year on new services introduced (excludes residential family centres).
1. Quality & Compliance
· Guarantee all services meet or exceed Ofsted standards and maintain our reputation for excellence.
· Oversee the quality of all reports and interventions, ensuring they are robust, court-ready, and trusted by commissioners.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
1. Commercial Growth & Stakeholder Engagement
· Engage with local authorities, commissioners, and key partners to expand our service reach.
· Position GHFA as a benchmark of quality in the sector, differentiating us from competitors.
· Ensure financial targets are met and exceeded through strong business acumen.
1. Service Development & Innovation
The Head of Family Services will be responsible for rolling out a portfolio of services in line with GHFA's strategic plan:
Priority Order (Recommended Rollout for GHFA):
1. Residential family assessments (core business, keep at high occupancy).
2. Community-based parenting assessments (expand market reach).
3. Reverse residentials (differentiate GHFA from competitors).
4. Viability assessments (high demand, quick turnaround, easy to scale with ISWs).
5. Specialist assessments (higher fee margin, psychologist partnerships).
6. ISW court-directed reports (adds credibility, builds links with solicitors/courts).
7. Supported accommodation-linked assessments (leverage existing homes).
Person Specification
Essential
· Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
· Proven experience in leading family assessment or related services and managing multidisciplinary teams.
· Strong commercial acumen with a track record of driving service growth and meeting financial targets.
· Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
· A passion for improving outcomes for children and families and a commitment to high standards.
Desirable
· Experience working with innovative service models and new service development.
· Familiarity with Ofsted inspection processes for family assessment centres or related settings.
