School Caretaker – Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Bristol
Hours: 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Monday to Friday)
Salary: £29,000 to £32,000

TeacherActive is working with a lovely primary school located in a fantastic area of Bristol, known for its welcoming atmosphere, supportive staff, and strong community spirit. We’re seeking a full-time, permanent School Caretaker to join their experienced caretaking team, who provide excellent training, ongoing support, and a team-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Securing the school site each day as a designated keyholder, ensuring all buildings are locked and safe
Performing general maintenance and minor repairs across the site (e.g. doors, lighting, plumbing, furniture)
Conducting routine health & safety checks and risk assessments
Liaising with external contractors and supervising site work when required
Maintaining clean and tidy school grounds, including some basic groundskeeping
Responding to emergencies such as alarm activations, maintenance issues, or weather-related concerns
Supporting school events by setting up equipment, signage, and furniture
Overseeing waste disposal, recycling, and maintaining stock of maintenance supplies
Assisting cleaning staff or stepping in to ensure communal areas meet hygiene standards
What We’re Looking For:
Previous experience in a caretaker, site manager, or school maintenance role (preferred)
Proactive, hands-on attitude with practical repair and maintenance skills
Good understanding of building/site health & safety, or willingness to learn
Excellent communication and time management skills
Flexible, dependable, and able to work well as part of a team
A valid DBS check (or willingness to apply for one)
Willingness to take on keyholding responsibilities, including late finishes and occasional out-of-hours needs
