At The University Health Centre, we are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care, serving approximately 15,000 patients.

We are seeking an experienced medical secretary to join our forward-thinking team.

Our practice is mainly student-based and employs a variety of staff including GPs, ANPs, nurses, physiotherapists, and pharmacists.

We are also a training practice for GP registrars and medical students.

As part of the Tolson Primary Care Network, we collaborate to offer a broad range of enhanced services.


Main duties of the job

The role involves providing comprehensive medical secretarial support to all members of the healthcare team, including word processing, managing mail, and utilizing the E-Referral system efficiently.

You will liaise with consultants, patients, relatives, outside agencies, and university staff, answering enquiries as appropriate.

The position is primarily secretarial but may include reception duties such as making appointments, answering calls, and face-to-face patient interactions, as needed to ensure full coverage.

You will also assist in collating reliable in-house statistics and always act courteously to patients, staff, and contacts, prioritizing the best interests of the health centre.

Additional tasks may be assigned by the Partners or Management Team.

Job description


Job responsibilities

Position: Medical Secretary

Full/Part-Time, Salary dependent on experience

The main purpose is to provide comprehensive secretarial support, with flexibility for holiday and sickness cover, currently three days per week, and occasional reception duties.

Reporting to: Practice Management & Partners

Responsibilities include secretarial tasks, managing mail, using the E-Referral system, liaising with various stakeholders, assisting with statistics, and ensuring courteous service.

Experience


Essential

* Experience with the E-Referral system


Desirable

* Experience in primary care and using Emis Web


Qualifications


Essential

* Experience with the E-Referral system
* Experience in a busy office environment


Desirable

* Experience working in a GP surgery and knowledge of Emis Web
