Drama-activity leader

Bath
Target English International
Activity leader
Posted: 3 September
Offer description

Overview

Locations: Hull, Bath, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Colchester, London – Harrow or Hatfield, United Kingdom.

We run junior summer courses for English language students aged 10-17. Students come from around the world; the majority are Italian, with others from Spain, Portugal, Poland, the Czech Republic, Argentina, and Cyprus, among others. Students typically stay for two weeks and participate in a mixed programme of lessons and activities/excursions run by Activity Leaders.

Mission

Our Mission: At Target English International, we aim to provide our students with a comfortable and caring setting in the UK to improve their communication in English and develop skills for a more global society. We want our students to leave the course with a better understanding of UK culture and the inspiration to become life-long learners of English.

Role overview

Activity Leaders are at the core of our activities programme. The role requires enthusiastic, personable and energetic individuals to help organise and prepare the social programme (varies by centre), run activities, take students on trips and excursions, and ensure that our students have a memorable, fun and safe time.

On weekdays students usually have classes in either the morning or afternoon. The rest of the time is spent with Activity Leaders on local visits, excursions or on-site activities. It is a busy programme and there is always something to do, so the ideal Activity Leader is well-organised, with a can-do attitude and is always happy to get involved. Working times will be allocated by your manager on a shift basis. Activity Leaders need to be flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks, as directed.

On-site activities are an important part of our programme, especially the Drama Workshop. Drama-Activity Leaders are people who are passionate about all things related to the theatre, possibly with experience and/or qualifications in this field. We want them to plan and lead our workshops, encourage our students to get involved in the workshops, while using English, and embrace their dramatic side!

The working week is 48 hours over 6 days. Shifts are split into morning, afternoon and evening and will include working each Saturday and Sunday, with one full weekday off per week. Due to the nature of Summer School there may be times when it could be necessary to work additional hours one week; time off in lieu will be given when the needs of the centre allow.

We encourage students to speak English at all times whilst on activities and excursions and Activity Leaders are expected to engage with all students and ensure that English is being practised.

To help prepare you for the role you will be required to complete a paid online Induction. Activity Leaders also complete online Safeguarding and online Prevent training.

Activity Programme

In each centre we run a busy, varied and exciting activity programme aimed specifically at teenagers. An important aspect of the activity programme is for students to learn about the local history and culture of the area in which they are staying and the UK in general. It is a key part of the Activity Leader’s duties to encourage use of English when on trips and activities.

In addition to excursions and local visits we also deliver a wide range of sports and other on-site activities.

Please read the job description prior to applying.
