Relief Social Care Assistant
Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for a Relief Social Care Assistant. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals seeking a new challenge.
Purpose of Post
The post holder will actively contribute to ensuring day‑to‑day operations align with the ethos and vision of CCoI, supporting individuals and collaborating with the social care team.
Responsibilities
Advocacy & Rights
* Respect and uphold each person’s human, legal and constitutional rights, recognising individuality and equality.
* Facilitate choice, decision‑making, self‑advocacy, and participation in community activities.
* Enable supported individuals to pursue hobbies and interests, aiming for the highest autonomy.
* Promote social integration and use of community facilities or generic community facilities.
Person‑Centred Support for Living
* Ensure a person‑centred approach to service delivery, supporting occupation, leisure, communication, behaviour plans, independent‑living skills, social integration, and personal care.
* Assist with personal hygiene, health matters, and appearance.
* Provide physical support (moving, handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, communication).
* Support personal care tasks: dressing, bathing, toileting, eating, sleeping, skin care, first aid, health promotion.
* Attend medical appointments and maintain a healthy, nutritious diet respecting individual choice.
* Maintain clean, acceptable standards within the home and surroundings.
* Implement person‑centred plans, participate in resident reviews, and drive centre transport when required.
* Accept delegated responsibility for physical and emotional well‑being of supported individuals.
* Assist with centre outing organisation.
Management and Leadership
* Oversee well‑being of individuals and manage safe equipment usage.
* Contribute to the team, ensuring quality support for vulnerable adults.
* Adhere to policies, procedures, and codes of practice.
* Maintain accurate records for assessments, incidents, medication, financial, and communication plans.
* Report concerns to the Person in Charge, incidents, and accidents promptly.
* Utilise transport services efficiently and advise staff on needs.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
* Minimum QQI Level 5 major award (e.g., BA in Social Care Studies) or equivalent in community/health/social care.
* At least 1 year of experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
* Knowledge of current social care policy and sector developments.
* Ability to follow plans and methods for ongoing needs.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
* Full driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.

Details of the Role
Salary Scale: €16.77 per hour
Location: Callan, Co. Kilkenny
Duration: Relief contract – fixed term, one year
