Job Opportunity: Paediatric Emergency Department Doctor
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our team at St Mary’s Hospital in the Paediatric Emergency Department. This role is ideal for trainees aiming to build confidence and skills in assessing and managing acutely ill and injured children, particularly those considering careers in paediatrics or emergency medicine.
St Mary’s Hospital is a busy Major Trauma Centre in London, offering a range of paediatric medical and surgical specialties, including PID, Haematology, Neurology, Allergy, Renal, and PICU. It is a key part of the North London Paediatric Specialist Network and is recognized for its academic and research excellence. The department is staffed by dedicated paediatric nurses and led by PEM consultants. Trainees are from both paediatric and emergency medicine backgrounds, working on a 2-tier rota.
Applicants should have completed their foundation training and possess a genuine interest in Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine. Prior experience in these fields is desirable but not mandatory.
Minimum requirements:
Must have at least 1 year of paid NHS experience in the UK. Observerships do not qualify.
Main duties of the job
Under supervision, doctors will see a variety of presentations (medical and trauma) to gain comprehensive experience in emergency paediatric care. They will be supported by the inpatient paediatric team and various specialties.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing initial assessment and treatment of children in the Emergency Department
* Gaining experience in resuscitating critically unwell and injured children
* Completing quality improvement projects to enhance departmental care
