About the Role
The Microbiology Department at Salford Royal Hospital is offering an exciting opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Band 4 Associate Practitioners.
You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality microbiology services, contributing to the accurate and timely processing of patient samples. Working within an established laboratory team, you will apply your scientific knowledge to assist with diagnostic testing, data entry, and sample management, ensuring a professional and efficient service to patients and clinical staff.
This role is ideal for candidates who hold a foundation degree in a science-based subject and are looking to progress their career in a clinical laboratory setting through further education and training.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Process and prepare patient samples for microbiological analysis following standard operating procedures.
Perform basic analytical tasks under supervision.
Accurately record and enter data into laboratory information systems.
Handle and interpret clinical request forms, understanding specimen types and testing requirements.
Communicate effectively with staff across all grades to maintain a high-quality, responsive service.
Contribute to maintaining laboratory safety and quality standards.
Essential Criteria
Foundation degree (or equivalent) in a science-based subject.
Previous clinical microbiology laboratory experience.
Experience at Band 4 level within a clinical microbiology department.
Knowledge of specimen types, medical terminology, and healthcare data entry systems.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Desirable Criteria
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing training and career development in laboratory science.
