Your Role
As Principal Planning Officer, you will:
Lead and Inspire : Support the Strategic Planning Manager in managing the Strategic Planning Service and mentoring a high-performing team.
Shape Policy : Drive the creation and delivery of the new Local Plan and other key planning policy documents.
Build the Evidence Base : Oversee research, data analysis, and consultant-led studies to inform robust policy decisions.
Champion Sustainability : Lead on environmental planning strategies aligned with Council priorities.
Streamline Processes : Enhance planning procedures to reflect best practice and deliver results.
Collaborate Across Boundaries : Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to align strategic objectives.
Engage the Public : Lead meaningful consultation and engagement, ensuring community voices shape our plans.
Advise with Authority : Provide expert input on complex planning matters and represent the Council at appeals and inquiries.
What You Will Bring
Proven Expertise : Significant experience in strategic planning and policy development.
Professional Credentials : A degree in Town Planning or a related field; RTPI membership is desirable.
Leadership & Vision : Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
