Overview

We are looking for a senior systems engineer to join the Workplace Technology Engineering Collaboration team. The role requires extensive experience in large-scale, complex global organisations, proficiency in technology strategy and roadmap planning, engineering, lifecycle planning and delivery, product selection, and technical project delivery from conception to production transition. Complementary skills include commercial awareness, evangelism, delivery-focus, secure-by-design mindset, and strong operations and customer awareness.


Responsibilities

* Own and drive the design and adoption of collaboration technologies across multiple Infrastructure domains, ensuring engineering effectiveness and strategic alignment.
* Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across Tesco Technology and with suppliers, demonstrating strategic and critical thinking.
* Own and shape the direction of significant areas of value, focusing on cost, security, governance, compliance, and user experience in technology solutions.
* Drive implementation of solutions that introduce new technologies in line with Tesco’s strategy and principles.
* Support standards and guidance for new technologies and influence product roadmaps.
* Contribute to commercial arrangements with technology vendors and ensure security baseline improvements.
* Work with architects, product managers, and consultants to align solution and product strategy.
* Manage the full project lifecycle from conception to operational handover.


Qualifications

* 6 years in a senior IT technical role or equivalent, with 3‑4 years as Systems Engineer II demonstrating core capabilities required for Systems Engineer III.
* In‑depth architectural/design level experience with Microsoft M365, Email/Exchange, Colleague Data, SharePoint, Generative AI, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot agents, Power Platform, and related technologies.


System Engineering Skills

Design
* Own and drive the architectural strategy and roadmap for collaboration technologies, M365, colleague data, Gen AI, and Copilot technologies.
* Drive the implementation of solutions that align with strategy and principles.
* Support standards and guidance for new technologies.
* Influence product roadmaps and manage vendor commercial arrangements.
* Ensure security baseline improvements.
* Collaborate with architects, product managers, and consultants for alignment.
* Manage full project lifecycle.
Operations
* Keep technical skills up to date and track new technologies.
* Design with automation in mind, minimizing hands‑on activity.
* Define, analyse, plan, forecast, measure, maintain, and improve service availability.
* Explore opportunities for business and service improvement.
* Maintain awareness of emerging technologies outside the specialism.

Technology Understanding
* Deep expertise in design, implementation, administration, configuration, and optimisation of M365 Services, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business at scale.
* Background in generative AI and Copilot solutions, including agents at scale.
* Domain admin/identity management experience.
* Expert knowledge of Power Platform and related technologies.
* Migration and management of data across local storage, Azure, M365, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and hybrid environments.
* Understanding of data technologies, security, archiving, retention, backup, and recovery.
* Advanced skills in Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI, including governance of premium connectors.
* Strong knowledge of Azure AD, Conditional Access, MFA, and security compliance policies for M365 workloads.
* Exposure to VMWare and Azure virtual platform technologies.
* General awareness of digital/modern workplace technologies.
* Windows security, auditing and best practices.
* PowerShell and scripting for automation and bulk operations in Microsoft 365 and Azure.
* Advanced PowerShell for Windows Infrastructure automation.
* Networking and firewall concepts.
* Strategic mindset to articulate vision and roadmap.
* Expert understanding of Microsoft 365 licensing models and optimization.
* Experience with license assignment, optimisation, and compliance monitoring in large environments.
* Ability to advise on cost‑effective licensing strategies.
* Familiarity with admin portals, PowerShell, and third‑party licensing tools.
Finance & Commercials
* Initiate proof of concept and pilot activities.
* Support business cases by evaluating product suitability.
* Understand budgeting, procurement, and product roadmap influence.
* Structure and present technology business cases.
