Salary: £48,449 - £50,637 pro rata (£24,224 - £25,318 per annum), inclusive of a 5% market supplement agreed until the end of March 2026.
Hours: 18.5 per week (Wed, Thurs, Fri alternate weeks Thurs/Fri)
Contract: Temporary Job Share for 6 months

Location: Flexible – office base in one of the offices within the Adoption West region (Bristol, Gloucester or Trowbridge) and working from home
The post holder will manage staff in the Bristol Office.
Main Duties
Adoption West is a Regional Adoption Agency and registered Voluntary Adoption Agency commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Councils. Adoption West provides a range of adoption services including:
* Recruitment and assessment of prospective adopters
* Family finding services for children requiring permanency via adoption
* Post‑adoption support services
* Services to birth family and adopted adults
This is an exciting time to join Adoption West as we build on the solid foundations already in place and our Good rating from Ofsted. As part of an internal restructure, our functions going forward will be service led across the region, rather than office/hub based.
Responsibilities
* Supervise Adoption Support social workers in assessing the support needs of adoptive families.
* Contribute to developing and improving the Adoption Support services across the region.
* Deputise in the absence of the Team manager.
* Supervision and appraisal of designated staff as per policy, ensuring compliance with legislation, guidance and departmental procedures.
* Set and monitor standards and performance in line with departmental internal and external indicators.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all cases and projects held by supervisees; undertake regular file audits.
* Ensure team works within legislation and protocols for information sharing and retention of records.
* Operate an effective duty system to respond timely to all enquiries (adoption, special guardian support etc.), prioritising and allocating work, judging interventions, assessments, child protection and case closure.
* Keep up‑to‑date with national initiatives, legislative changes, practice developments and best practice in the adoption field; implement key changes.
* Assist the team manager in implementing and monitoring the adoption team development plan and recruitment strategy.
* Deliver performance indicators in line with set targets and departmental expectations (timeliness of enquiries, assessments, home‑finding, increasing adoptive placements).
* Secure effective involvement of prospective adopters, parents/carers, children and young people in developing and evaluating services.
* Model and provide good equalities practice and value diversity within the team and in contact with professionals, children, young people and families; reflect service user diversity.
* Ensure the assessment and management of risk in safeguarding children and young people through robust adoption assessment and support processes.
* Ensure complaints and allegations are dealt with according to departmental procedures.
* Assist the manager in robust resource management, ensuring quality and value for money.
* Travel throughout Wiltshire and beyond as required.
