Overview
We are seeking a Senior Youth Worker to lead on and deliver high-quality youth work interventions for asylum-seeking and refugee children and young people, with a particular focus on Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC). The role centers on supporting male UASC aged 16 to 18 and requires a practitioner confident in engaging teenage boys through both structured and informal youth work. Duties, within the Young Lives service, include managing a caseload, facilitating thematic learning sessions, coordinating group activities, and promoting integration, wellbeing and empowerment.
The Young Lives service offers specialized practical, emotional, and social support for asylum-seeking and refugee children, families, and young people. The service aims to provide trauma-informed care that can be accessed by families or individual young people. We provide intensive support and link work to help families and young people access other Action Foundation services and external community services. We provide regular youth groups in Newcastle and Gateshead, along with social, sporting, and educational activities to enrich lives both in and outside of school. The service includes one-to-one support sessions to provide guidance and pastoral care, along with confidence and resilience-building activities for referred young people including Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC). The service delivers these activities in collaboration with trusted partners. The service emphasizes the importance of listening to young people with lived experiences of migration, involving them in decision-making processes to create effective programs designed by the people who use them.
You will work closely with other Youth Worker(s) under the oversight and guidance of the Young Lives Project Manager to fulfil our commitments to clients and your responsibility therein. You will also play an important role in developing our delivery model and other operational planning to improve the Young Lives service.
Action Foundation is an Equal Opportunity employer, and we welcome applications from all sectors of the community, particularly those who have lived experience of migration. We also have a strong focus on safeguarding in the organisation and a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check will be part of the recruitment process.
