Work pattern: Monday- Friday 08:30-16:30, however we are happy to consider part time and a flexible work pattern in line with the service requirements.

An opportunity has arisen for two Prosthetic & Orthotic Advanced Technicians within the Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology (SMART) Services based within the purpose-build SMART Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. SMART Services ) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland and beyond.

The post holders will manufacture, repair and maintain custom-made and modified medical devices to prescription within the SMART quality management system. They will contribute to the design of custom-made medical devices, attend and participate in appointments with patients (repairs and adjustments), provide technical leadership within one of the specialist areas (Prosthetics or Orthotics) and provide technical advice to clinical staff and other technicians. They will train and mentor other technicians including the modern apprentices within the P&O Workshop. Full details of all aspects of the role are provided in the Job Description.

Due to the advanced knowledge and manufacturing skills required to undertake this role, the post holders will be a specialist in either Prosthetics or Orthotics. At this time, the service is looking to recruit one Advanced Technician to each specialism.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
