Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver high‐quality English programmes within HMP Feltham. Working with small groups of prison‐based learners, you will support individuals to develop their English skills, confidence, and behaviours, helping them progress toward their long‐term education, training, and employment goals.
You will design engaging sessions, create personalised learning plans, and provide continuous advice and guidance to ensure each learner receives an outstanding learning experience. This is an incredibly rewarding role where your teaching will directly support rehabilitation and personal development.
Full training and support can be provided for candidates who do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high‐quality Functional Skills English sessions to small groups of learners.
Create individual learning plans, ensuring programmes meet learner needs and starting points.
Use a variety of teaching approaches and resources to engage and motivate learners.
Support learners to develop confidence, communication skills, and employability‐focused behaviours.
Conduct assessments, track progress, and maintain accurate learner records.
Provide constructive feedback to help learners achieve and progress.
Work collaboratively with prison staff and education colleagues to ensure smooth delivery.
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion across all learning environments.
Essential Criteria
Level 3 English qualification (or equivalent).
Level 5 teaching qualification (or equivalent).
Strong subject knowledge with practical experience in your field.
Experience delivering training or educational sessions.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to engage diverse learner groups.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Criteria
Assessing qualification (e.g., TAQA, CAVA). xxuwjjq
