Radiology Department Assistant

To support patients during radiology examinations and assist other imaging assistants with preparing patients and conducting examinations. Act as a mentor and role model to junior RDAs, providing advice and guidance. Be proactive in assisting radiology staff, prioritizing patient needs. Provide proficient cannulation services and mentor junior RDAs training in this area; appropriate training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
* Check stock levels as part of weekly departmental stock checks
* Communicate effectively with a broad range of patients prior to examinations, including those with language barriers or medical difficulties
* Manage conflicting demands while remaining focused on tasks
* Understand and comply with legislative obligations, including Data Protection Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, local radiation rules, and departmental and Trust policies
* Perform additional duties as requested by senior management
* Participate in annual performance appraisals and reviews to set and achieve future objectives
* Maintain a professional demeanor at all times and act as an ambassador for the department and profession
* Coordinate patient arrivals and departures from relevant departments
* Assist in manual handling of patients in line with manual handling policies
* Manage admissions and discharges for injection lists
* Perform cannulation where required
* Train and mentor junior staff

Job responsibilities
This rotational role involves MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and potentially Nuclear Medicine. Support stock management by checking levels and raising concerns about low stock to superintendents.
Person Specification
Education
o NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
o Level 4+ qualification
Experience
o NHS experience preferred
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
