Overview
We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Ophthalmology Department at Epsom and St Helier. You will need to be qualified and practising autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner. As this is a new role in Ophthalmology you will be pivotal in development of this post.
The post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families, and carers. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice in both an emergency and elective setting.
Interviews will be held on Friday 24th October 2025.
The role will predominantly be working in the Acute Eye Service but there will be an opportunity to undertake elective outpatient clinics. Assessing individuals, families and carers, holistically using a range of different methods, such as physical assessment and history taking, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessments.
Responsibilities
* Use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations and make diagnoses.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
* Decide on and carry out treatment, which may include the prescribing of medicines, or referring patients to an appropriate specialist.
* Ensure the provision of continuity of care.
* Assess and evaluate with patients and/or carers the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen MaryC Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
