Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Specialist Nurse to join our CAMHS Crisis Team, supporting children and young people experiencing acute mental health difficulties. This senior role offers the opportunity to influence high-quality crisis care and provide professional nursing leadership in a fast-paced and rewarding clinical environment.

You will use advanced skills to provide specialist assessment, formulation and treatment planning for young people presenting in crisis, managing a small caseload of highly complex cases. Key focus of the role is supporting staff across the team through clinical supervision, consultation and training, ensuring safe and effective management of high-risk situations including self-harm, suicidal thoughts, acute distress and behavioural dysregulation.

You will contribute to service development, clinical audit, quality improvement, while working collaboratively with acute hospitals, social care, education and other partners. We welcome applicants with substantial experience in CAMHS or crisis settings, strong leadership capability and commitment to trauma-informed, compassionate and person-centred care.

Main duties of the job

o Provide advanced clinical assessment, formulation and treatment planning for children and young people presenting in mental health Hold a small caseload of highly complex cases and provide expert clinical Lead on clinical risk assessment and risk management, ensuring robust crisis and safety Offer specialist consultation and advice to MDT colleagues, acute hospitals, social care and education Provide clinical supervision, mentorship and professional leadership to nursing staff within the Coordinate and contribute to training programmes for nursing and wider MDT Be part of the Leadership ship and support in governance processes, maintaining high standards of clinical practice and Contribute to clinical audit, research, quality improvement and service development Provide specialist input into the development of pathways, policies and evidence-based practice within the Crisis Promote trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based approaches across the Build and maintain effective multi-agency relationships to support collaborative crisis care.

Qualifications

Essential

1. Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RNMH / RNLD/ (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
2. Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor
3. Trained in Clinical Supervision and be providing Clinical Supervision
4. And have Professional clinical knowledge and experience acquired through degree (or equivalent post registration study), supplemented by specialist training, experience, short courses at level 7 see below
5. For example Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma/Masters Degree, Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Postgraduate diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP (Independent Prescriber), Psychosocial Interventions
6. And have Equivalent significant clinical experience such as working (minimum of 2 years) as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area, together with evidence of relevant CPD to Level 7 or equivalent

Knowledge

14. Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
15. Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act
16. Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
17. Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
18. Clinical Governance and its application in practice
19. Working knowledge of clinical medicines management
20. Understanding of Psychosocial models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area)
