Overview
The energy landscape is rapidly transforming. You will be part of our Transmissions and Distributions teams, acting as a partner to clients and applying your expertise to solve challenges in industrial, transmission/distribution and renewable sectors.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for the design of transmission protection systems for voltages up to 400 kV.
* Review in-house designs and designs produced by external contractors.
* Advise on design and design change issues; propose and implement alternative solutions where appropriate.
* Ensure design projects are undertaken by competent personnel and sub-contractors; review designs created by others.
* Lead and participate in site visits / non-intrusive surveys as part of design activities or site support.
* Identify, assess and manage risks to avoid adverse project impacts; ensure timely delivery to the required quality and budget.
* Interface with clients and coordinating teams (infrastructure planners, project resources, Direct Labour/Construction, System Operator, procurement) and attend site meetings.
* CDM and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven technical capability in design and/or application of power system protection; preference for protection experience at transmission voltage levels up to 400 kV in a transmission utility, consultancy or manufacturing environment; strong distribution background also considered.
* Experience in producing Protection and Control design deliverables, feasibility studies, reports, programmes and cost estimates.
* Experience in relay settings calculation and logic file preparation.
* Experience working with internal and external parties (equipment suppliers, manufacturers, service providers, professional bodies) and strong team-working skills.
* Experience in preparing detailed electrical schematic diagrams for substation Protection and Control systems.
* Experience with Busbar, Feeder, Transformer, Reactor, Circuit Breaker fail, DAR protections and SCADA interfaces; FACTS, HVDC protection desirable.
* Protection design using conventional and non-conventional Instrument Transformers; knowledge of IEC61850 protocols.
* Experience in preparing Single Line Diagrams, Substation Layouts, Key Line Drawings (SLD, KLD) and Cable protection.
* Working knowledge of computer-based software such as ASPEN OneLiner and ETAP.
* National Grid TP141 Protection and Settings authorisation would be advantageous.
* Proven ability to communicate complex technical or commercial issues to peers or senior managers; ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams; develop working relationships quickly and effectively.
* Proven experience in writing clear and concise documentation.
