Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. You will work within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, influencing and shaping how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments.
As part of the MEICA Engineering Standards team you will manage, develop and maintain our electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures. You will also develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees working on electrical systems and equipment, and hold a national incident response role.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support across the organisation.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards and safety rules.
* Develop and deliver competency and skills guidance for employees managing electrical systems.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may fall outside normal working hours.
* Champion diversity and inclusion within the workforce.
Qualifications
* A good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in risk assessment, method statements, Safe Systems of Work.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems, and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of risk‑based electrical maintenance philosophies and related reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.

This is a hybrid role; a base location will be allocated near to your home. Travel and overnight stays may be required.
