Job overview

We’re seeking a Deputy Head of Corporate Communicationsto join our busy Communications Team on a 6-month fixed term or secondment basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support the strategic leadership of communications at Sirona – a large and growing community health provider. You’ll work closely with the Interim Associate Director of Communications and Deputy Director of Communications to lead on internal and external communications, corporate affairs, media, and stakeholder engagement.

You’ll help shape and strengthen the communications function, ensuring it is fit for purpose across all levels – from frontline services to Board. You’ll also play a key role in public relations, service change communications, and high-level political and stakeholder engagement.

Your role will include:

Providing expert communications advice and leadership across Sirona

Designing and delivering impactful staff engagement and media strategies

Supporting public consultations and managing reputational risks

Leading and developing Communications Officers

Deputising for the Head of Communications, Media and PR as needed

Collaborating with system-wide colleagues and external partners

This role would suit a communications professional with experience in healthcare, public sector or similar, who thrives in a fast-paced, strategic environment.

Main duties of the job

* Provide strategic leadership for the roll out and optimisation of Sirona’s new Sharepoint-based internal communications platform.
* Support the Interim Associate Director of Communications in providing strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a communications strategy for the full range of our activities which will promote our strategic vision. This includes working with colleagues to advise on optimum strategies to support change and developments within Sirona, along with communications implications of decisions, policies and plans.
* Provide communications to support the delivery of Sirona’s Strategy: Improved Outcomes for All and 2025-26 Business Plan.
* To develop the use of metrics and qualitative reports on corporate communications activities and their impact; and to use these as the basis for future planning.

Person specification


Qualifications & Training

* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Hold a UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle during working hours.
* Knowledge of local, national, strategic and operational policy developments and an awareness of their implications.
* Understanding of the interfaces between Primary Care, Community Care, Acute Care, Local Authorities and the Voluntary, Charitable and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE).


Skills, Knowledge and Experience

* Extensive knowledge of specialist areas with evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development gained through post graduate qualifications or equivalent experience or training
* Experience working at Senior level
* Sound understanding of the background and aims of current health and social care policy
* Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups
* Proven management skills, including the ability to lead, empower and motivate others
* Ability to facilitate collaborative working across the locality and organisational boundaries.
* Ability to design, plan and deliver training and development sessions to individuals on effective communication and media management
