Catalyst – one of the North’s leading firms of chartered accountants and business advisers – is seeking a Payroll Manager/Supervisor to join our Newcastle office. The role involves delivering high‑quality, timely payroll services to a diverse portfolio of clients.
Key Responsibilities
* End‑to‑end payroll process delivery for a portfolio of clients, ensuring that the payrolls are processed and submitted each pay period in a timely and accurate manner.
* Advising on any technical payroll matters arising, such as termination payments, payrolling of benefits and statutory payments.
* Dealing with client and team queries in relation to payroll operations, including handling escalations.
* Managing team workloads and allocations, providing counseling including annual and in‑year reviews.
* Preparing client fee and budget details.
* Approving BACS files for the payment of employees.
* Auto‑Enrolment compliance.
* Setting up and attending client meetings when required.
* Developing additional services for payroll clients.
* Ensuring the smooth transition/implementation of new payroll clients – effective procedures for the setup of internal and external systems, tools and processes.
* HMRC audit assistance and ensuring compliance with internal quality and risk requirements.
Qualifications Required
* Strong, end‑to‑end experience as Payroll Manager, Payroll Delivery Manager, Payroll Supervisor, Payroll Controller, or Senior Payroll Officer, ideally gained in a UK bureau environment or handling larger/more complex payrolls.
* Payroll qualifications such as CIPP are advantageous.
* Expertise in payroll compliance, rules and legislations in a multi‑country environment, including AE, RTI, Apprenticeship Levy, statutory payments/deductions, pension contributions, etc.
* Understanding of related processes that impact Payroll.
* Strong workload, project, time and stakeholder management skills.
* Good IT skills, including experience of working with Excel.
* An assertive, proactive, flexible, service‑driven, innovative and cooperative approach to delivery with a desire to take on responsibility.
* Excellent communication skills.
