Research Associate/Assistant in Quantum Modelling at Newcastle University
We are excited to launch a new opportunity for a Research Associate/Research Assistant in Quantum Modelling to join the Quantum Group in the School of Computing. The position is funded under Dr Barbara‑Anne Robertson and Dr Jonte Hance’s UKRI Cross‑Research Council Responsive Mode Grant “Quantum Emotions: Using the Quantum Formalism to explain temporal order effects in memory for emotional events”. The role involves applying the quantum formalism to model experimental observations of human emotional memory performance and the neural systems that support it, and collaborating closely with internal and external partners across Japan and Sweden.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience in quantum measurement theory or tensor network methods, but are also eager to consider candidates without expertise in these areas as long as they have a broad background in quantum information science and technology and an interest in quantum foundations and psychology.
The role is currently funded for two years, with the possibility of extension, and we are willing to consider flexible or part‑time working arrangements. We prefer a candidate who has either been awarded their PhD or is in the final year of a PhD programme and will submit their thesis before starting. If the PhD is awarded after starting, the position would be at Research Assistant level until the award.
As a UKRI‑funded role, the successful applicant is eligible for the Endorsed Funder Route of the Global Talent Visa, with costs supported by the grant.
The post is full time, fixed‑term for two years.
