ABOUT YOU
This role is ideal for an experienced scientist with a strong foundation in biophysics and large-molecule analysis, who enjoys working independently, applying technical expertise to complex analytical challenges, and collaborating closely with colleagues and clients.
You will bring strong technical capability, confidence in method development and validation, and the ability to communicate clearly on scientific and commercial matters.
Required skills and experience:
1. BSc, MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline
2. Strong experience working with biophysical characterisation techniques for biopharmaceutical products
3. Proven experience of method development, optimisation and validation
4. Experience working in a GxP-regulated laboratory with a solid understanding of GMP and GLP
5. Experience working with large molecules and proteins
6. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
7. Spectroscopic techniques (. Circular Dichroism, FTIR)
8. Thermal characterisation techniques, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and thermal transition analysisc-IEF, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGEOligonucleotide and/or mRNA analysisELISA and plate-based residual impurity assaysStrong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and apply scientific literature where requiredGood IT, numeracy, and data interpretation skillsClear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with clientsStrong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
On a daily basis, you will work as an independent member of the Biophysical Characterisation team, delivering high-quality analytical services to pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients.
The role involves working across projects of varying scale, scope and complexity, with opportunities to apply specialist knowledge, develop new techniques, and contribute to both technical delivery and commercial success.
Key activities:
9. Perform independent method development, optimisation and validation using a range of biophysical characterisation techniques
10. Plan, execute and interpret analytical work with minimal supervision
11. Generate high-quality data, reports and technical documentation in line with regulatory requirements
12. Deliver analytical services in accordance with GMP and GLP standards
13. Ensure studies meet quality, regulatory and client expectations
14. Troubleshoot complex analytical challenges and develop fit-for-purpose solutions
15. Communicate confidently with clients on technical matters, including results interpretation and study strategy
16. Support Business Development through technical input into quotations and proposals
17. Demonstrate commercial awareness when planning and delivering analytical work
18. Support the training and mentoring of junior colleagues
19. Collaborate proactively with colleagues across teams to ensure efficient project delivery
20. All work will be carried out in accordance with Intertek procedures, regulatory standards, and safety requirements.
