They seek a dynamic and forward-thinking Head of Payroll to lead, develop, and grow their payroll function. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a vital area of the business, driving operational excellence, enhancing systems and processes, and building a high-performing team that supports the business and its growth ambitions.
You will lead established teams at three of their offices and provide support for other payrollers in the business operating at other locations.
The role will be based in Nottingham with travel around key payroll hubs. Regular visits to all hubs will be expected to support the teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership and management - Oversee the payroll team, providing leadership, training, and performance management. Work closely with senior managers at payroll hubs.
* Staff development - Keep payroll teams legislative up-to-date and develop them further. Complete appraisals of Senior Payroll Managers and review the rest of the team.
* Develop service line - Consolidate and grow the payroll service for the company, identifying internal and external opportunities.
* Process management - Manage and optimise end-to-end payroll processes, from data entry to payment distribution.
* Continuous improvement - Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
* Compliance - Ensure adherence to relevant tax laws, regulations, and company policies, including emerging legislation like payrolling benefits.
* Payroll assurance - Manage ongoing PAS reaccreditation to maintain payroll management standards.
* System expertise - Manage payroll software, including upgrades and integrations, collaborating with IT and project teams.
* Data security - Maintain the confidentiality and security of payroll data.
* Reporting - Prepare and present performance reports for the board.
* Client and employee interaction - Act as a point of contact for high-level client inquiries, resolving issues, and improving communication with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
* Relevant payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP) preferred; qualified by experience candidates are also welcome.
* Extensive payroll management experience, ideally in professional services or bureau environments.
* Deep knowledge of payroll processes, legislation, and employment taxation.
* Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with experience in implementation and management.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Analytical skills to interpret payroll data and identify trends.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
