Job Description

Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Location: Skelmersdale

Type: Full-Time

Duration: March 2024 – July 2025

Weekly Pay: £450-£500 (PAYE – No Umbrella Company)

New Directions Liverpool is seeking a special needs teaching assistant for SEND schools in Skelmersdale for a long-term role. The successful candidate will support children with social, emotional, and mental health issues. The role is to start ASAP, subject to clearance.


Responsibilities

* Have excellent communication skills.
* Build strong relationships with students and staff.
* Be encouraging and supportive.
* Maintain a positive attitude towards teaching and child development.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of students.

The role involves mentoring, motivating, advising, and some counselling to support children's well-being, enabling them to achieve more and work towards independence. Applicants should be prepared to practice de-escalation and calming techniques, maintain an empathetic approach, and understand behaviors stemming from other issues. Candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology, and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.


Job Specification

* Experience working with children or adults with additional needs.
* Hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
* Support children of all abilities.
* Positive and ambitious attitude towards learning.
