Position Summary
The Global Leader, Environmental Compliance & Sustainability – DePuy Synthes is responsible for defining and driving the global environmental and sustainability strategy across DePuy Synthes operations worldwide. The role spans the end-to-end value chain, including R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial activities, and ensures environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and progress toward sustainability commitments are embedded into business strategy and execution.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
* 20%– Defines and leads the global environmental and sustainability strategy across R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial operations.
* 20%– Establishes and governs the global environmental and sustainability management system, including policies, standards, objectives, and performance metrics.
* 15%– Leads identification, assessment, and management of environmental risks and opportunities, including emissions, waste, water, chemicals, and life‑cycle considerations.
* 15%– Drives global carbon, climate, and energy management strategy, including greenhouse gas accounting, energy efficiency initiatives, and decarbonization roadmaps.
* 10%– Leads and develops a global environmental and sustainability leadership team, including direct management of global process owners for Environmental Management and Carbon & Climate & Energy Management.
* 10%– Oversees global environmental and sustainability performance monitoring, reporting, and corrective action processes.
* 5%– Supports EHS&S elements of acquisitions and divestitures.
* 5%– Represents DePuy Synthes with regulators, industry forums, and external stakeholders on environmental and sustainability matters.
Other Duties
Provides environmental and sustainability leadership input to major business initiatives, capital projects, acquisitions, and transformation programs, and supports response to significant environmental events or regulatory matters.
Required Qualifications
Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
Required Years of Related Experience: Typically 10+ years of progressive environmental and/or sustainability leadership experience in global, multi‑site, or regulated environments.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Deep expertise in environmental management systems, sustainability strategy, and regulatory compliance.
* Demonstrated ability to lead global programs and influence senior leaders in a matrixed organization.
* Strong people leadership experience, including leadership of senior technical experts.
* Experience with carbon accounting, climate strategy, and energy management.
* Excellent communication skills and executive presence.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Minimum Education: Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with ISO 14001; MedTech or regulated industry experience; familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks.
Key Working Relationships
Internal: Global and regional leaders across R&D, Supply Chain, Commercial, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, and EHS&S.
External: Regulatory authorities, industry associations, sustainability organizations, and external service providers.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct Reports: Global process owners for Environmental Management and Carbon & Climate & Energy Management.
Indirect Reports: Regional and site-level environmental and sustainability resources aligned to global programs.
Decision Making Authority
Makes hiring recommendations; trains employees; plans work of others; reviews work quality and quantity; conducts performance reviews; makes pay and promotional recommendations; recommends budget amounts.
