As a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker in surgery, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our nursing teams to deliver outstanding patient care. Every day is different, and your work will have a direct impact on the experience of patients with a range of conditions. Training & Development
Whether you’re new to healthcare or looking to build on existing experience, we’ll support you every step of the way. You’ll begin with our “New to Care” induction programme, designed to help you settle into life at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. You’ll learn the essential skills needed for the role and work towards the Care Certificate (unless you have already completed it).

Main Duties
Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is a key member of the ward team, delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to adults. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will provide personal care, assist with clinical tasks, support patient monitoring, and help maintain a safe, effective ward environment.
Daily duties include:
* Blood pressure monitoring
* Oxygen saturation levels
* Body temperature
* Pulse rate and respiration rate
* Glucose monitoring
* Collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples
* Wound swabs
* Recording your actions accurately in patient notes
Skills & Experience
Essential Criteria
* Experience working in a public‑facing or customer care role.
* Ability to use IT systems and databases, with strong attention to detail.
* Understanding of strict confidentiality requirements.
* Experience working within a team.
* Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience working in a health and social care role and NHS experience, with knowledge of NHS/social care systems.
* Prior healthcare experience and a Care Certificate (or the ability to achieve this within the first three months).
