Role: Maintenance Electrician - Cranes
Location: Middlesborough
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Electrician to join our cranes electrical team at Middlesborough. You will be part of a dynamic engineering team responsible for the preventative maintenance, inspection, fault-finding, and repair of the port’s crane assets. These include mobile harbour cranes, rubber-tyred gantry cranes, and ship-to-shore container cranes.
You will respond to breakdowns and apply your technical expertise to diagnose and resolve faults safely and efficiently, minimizing disruption to port operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on crane assets
* Diagnose and repair electrical faults across various crane systems
* Work with a range of electrical components and power supplies
* Respond to breakdowns and ensure minimal operational impact
* Maintain safe working practices, including safe isolation procedures
Required Experience & Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy industry post-apprenticeship (Essential)
* ONC / Level 3 qualification or equivalent (Essential); HNC/HND preferred
* Strong knowledge of:
* Electromechanical devices (solenoids, thrusters, actuators)
* AC/DC motors up to 400kW
* Power electronics (inverters, rectifiers)
* Motor control methods (soft start, DOL, VSDs, resistance banks, thyristors)
* Switching devices (relays, contactors, circuit breakers, proximity switches)
* Industrial communication networks:
* Canbus, Asibus, Profibus, Profinet, Fibre optics
* PLC systems:
* Siemens Step5/Step7, ABB, Danfoss, CoDeSys
Physical Requirements
* Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
* Capable of working at height
