What's involved with this role: Facilities Officer Job Ref: West Devon 5285131 Pay Rate: £14.85 per PAYE Hours per week: 22.5 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 3 months Kilworthy Park, PL19 0BZ Driving licence and own vehicle required Summary of what the candidate must have to apply : Strong building maintenance and defect diagnosis background Contractor management and housing repairs experience Good grasp of HHSRS, Decent Homes and statutory compliance HNC in a building discipline or equivalent practical experience IT confident, able to use housing and asset systems Clear communication and solid customer handling Capable of inspections, condition surveys and independent workload management The role: You will deliver day to day housing repairs across East Devon, ensuring tenants receive prompt, high quality maintenance support. Duties include reactive and planned repairs, contractor oversight, inspections, defect diagnosis, compliance checks and managing property visits. Decision making and technical judgement will be key. Key accountabilities: Investigate repair requests and diagnose defects Manage reactive, planned and void repairs Carry out pre and post inspection Prioritise repairs using HHSRS and safety frameworks Maintain contractor relationships Provide duty surveyor cover as needed Complete condition surveys and support planned works programmes Monitor contractor performance for value for money Manage quoted and exclusion works Support compliance: gas, electrical, fire, legionella, asbestos Support voids, from specification to inspection and cost control Handle disrepair, complaints and Ombudsman cases Identify tenant recharges and unauthorised works Respond to emergencies including fires, floods and structural issues Keep stock records up to date and support wider housing teams Requirements/key criteria: HNC or equivalent building-related discipline, or strong diagnostic experience Knowledge of construction, maintenance and contract management Organised, able to manage competing priorities Good communication and customer service skills IT literate (Office and housing systems) Strong accuracy and attention to detail Able to work independently and within a team Full UK driving licence and own vehicle Comfortable attending site and occasional out of hours issues How to Apply Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
