We are recruiting for a dynamic Technical Manager role on behalf of our client, a prominent family-owned food manufacturer renowned for innovation, sustainability, and producing high-quality products.
Role Overview: The Technical Manager will report directly to the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in a fast-paced manufacturing site. This hands-on position requires leading a team of approximately 15, driving continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with retailer standards, and maintaining top-tier food safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leadership & Team Development: Lead and develop a technical team, including Quality Managers, Leads, Technicians, Assistants, and Compliance Managers, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Compliance & Standards: Ensure adherence to all food safety, quality, and legal requirements; maintain and enhance site standards to align with BRCGS and major retailer codes; oversee internal, external, and customer audits, implementing corrective actions as needed.
* Retailer Engagement: Serve as the primary technical contact for retailer customers, managing specifications, complaints, and queries efficiently and professionally.
* Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements in processes, systems, and standards; drive initiatives to reduce waste, boost efficiency, and improve product quality.
* Collaboration: Work closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to integrate technical standards into daily operations; support new product development (NPD) and launches from a technical viewpoint.
* Additional Duties: Uphold legislative requirements, participate in the site's HACCP team, and handle other tasks as necessary to support the business.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
* Proven experience in a technical leadership role within food manufacturing.
* Level 2 HACCP, Level 2 Food Hygiene, and internal auditor experience.
* Strong working knowledge of BRCGS and food safety protocols.
Skills and Knowledge:
* In-depth understanding of retailer requirements and codes of practice.
* A hands-on approach with the ability to engage on the factory floor.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels.
* Expertise in managing audits and driving compliance improvements.
* Superior problem-solving abilities, including root cause analysis and investigations.
* Proficiency in computer skills and mechanical aptitude.
