We are seeking a Science Lecturer specializing in Biochemistry. As a lecturer, you will coordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including high-quality teaching, managing operational issues, exams, and timetabling. You will inspire students through outstanding teaching that challenges them to excel.
Lecturers should be passionate about their subject and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and employability skills. Regular target setting and progress monitoring will underpin your efforts to ensure successful student outcomes.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
The following outlines the main priorities as directed by senior management and is not exhaustive:
1. Deliver high-quality teaching aligned with College standards and external validating bodies. Prepare teaching materials, develop curricula, undertake quality assurance, assess student work, monitor progress, and maintain statutory compliance including safeguarding, equality, and health & safety.
2. Manage course operations including communication, problem-solving, timetable adjustments, cover arrangements, work experience, internal verification, and administrative tasks to ensure cross-site consistency.
3. Assist with recruitment and enrolment ensuring students are registered correctly, and organize induction programmes.
4. Support students through regular meetings, setting SMART targets, assisting with UCAS applications, and addressing pastoral needs, liaising with college services.
5. Monitor student attendance and results and implement action plans to improve retention and achievement.
6. Promote English and Maths through class and one-to-one support, monitoring attendance and student progress.
7. Participate in meetings and events including staff meetings, parent evenings, and marketing, and coordinate parent consultations.
8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses and materials, attend CPD events, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Contribute to departmental administration including register marking, reporting, and updating the VLE.
10. Engage in quality assurance activities such as course reviews, verification, and moderation.
For lecturers on SPS points 5–8, additional responsibilities include internal verification, monitoring SAR action plans, resource coordination, and liaising with higher education institutions.
