We are now looking for an experienced and motivated Scaffold Yard Manager to take charge of daily operations at our busy Preston depot and play a key part in supporting our field operations nationwide. Role Overview The Scaffold Yard Manager will oversee all yard activities, ensuring materials, vehicles, and equipment are safely and efficiently managed, maintained, and dispatched to meet project requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational control with staff supervision, logistics coordination, and compliance management. You will be responsible for ensuring all equipment and materials are accounted for, checked, and fit for purpose — while maintaining a safe, organised, and productive environment for your team. Key Responsibilities Operational Management Manage the day-to-day running of the yard, ensuring smooth coordination between yard, transport, and site teams. Plan, prioritise, and schedule material movements to meet project deadlines. Oversee the loading and unloading of scaffolding, hoists, and plant equipment, ensuring safe systems of work. Maintain accurate records of all materials issued and returned, including damaged or missing items. Ensure returned materials are cleaned, inspected, and stored correctly in readiness for reuse. Implement and maintain an effective stock control system to manage scaffolding and mechanical access assets. People & Team Leadership Supervise and support yard operatives, drivers, and labourers, ensuring adherence to company standards. Lead by example, promoting a positive safety culture and a strong sense of teamwork. Manage timesheets, rota planning, and attendance records for yard-based staff. Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ongoing training as required. Compliance & Safety Enforce compliance with company HSEQ, TG20, and LOLER procedures at all times. Ensure yard plant and equipment are inspected, certified, and maintained in line with regulations. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard layout, including proper segregation of pedestrian and vehicle areas. Report and investigate any accidents, near misses, or incidents promptly and accurately. Fleet, Property & Systems Oversee the condition and servicing schedule of company vehicles, forklifts, and lifting equipment. Assist in the management of company property and tools, ensuring accountability and proper usage. Support administrative processes including delivery notes, fleet documentation, inspection records, and timesheets. Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying efficiency and safety improvements in yard operations. Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in a yard management or foreman role within a scaffolding, access, or construction environment. Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent understanding of scaffolding materials, equipment types, and handling practices. Competent in record-keeping, stock control, and basic computer-based systems. Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced operational setting. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and practical attitude. Valid CSCS card (essential); CISRS, Forklift/Telehandler licence, or LOLER competence advantageous. Full UK driving licence required.
