Qualifications
Essential criteria
 1. NMC Registered Nurse
 2. Advanced Diploma/Degree in Adult Health Nursing Studies
Desirable criteria
 3. Teaching Qualification
 4. Post registration courses related to Palliative Care
Experience
Essential criteria
 5. Experience of caring for patients with acute and long term conditions
 6. Demonstrable clinical experience in End of Life Care
Desirable criteria
 7. Previous experience of looking after terminally ill patients.
 8. Previous experience in nursing in the NHS.
Interpersonal skills
Essential criteria
 9. Effective communication using a variety of methods.
 10. Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information to patients, carers and significant others
 11. Able to work unsupervised and on own initiative
 12. Able to integrate and work within the MDT
 13. Organisation and planning skills
Desirable criteria
 14. Leadership and management skills
Technical Skills
Essential criteria
 15. Basic IT skills
 16. Demonstrable ability with vital signs monitoring equipment and ability to recognise the deteriorating patient
 17. Non-IV and IV medication administration including administration of blood products
 18. Calculation of drug doses for infusions requiring frequent concentration
Desirable criteria
 19. Venepuncture and cannulation
 20. Male Catheterisation
 21. Awareness of audit
 22. Verification of Expected Death training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
 23. Ability to demonstrate fundamental nursing knowledge and practice skills
