Belmont Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Payments Assistant to join a busy finance team within a local authority. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative and financial processing skills to support the delivery of accurate and efficient payment services.
This is a temporary contract for 3 months with a view to extend, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring supplier invoices and employee expense claims are processed and paid in a timely and accurate manner, supporting the effective operation of the Council’s finance systems.
Key Responsibilities

Process invoices, payments, and expenses accurately within agreed timescales.

Maintain accurate financial records in line with Council policies and procedures.

Resolve payment queries by liaising with suppliers, staff, and other departments.
*
Support month-end processes and reconciliations.
*
Assist in the development and maintenance of financial systems and procedures.
*
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
*
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and data protection.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
*
Previous experience in an administrative or finance-related role.
*
Ability to organise workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
Location - Civic Centre, Glebe Street, Stoke on Trent (Hybrid working arrangements).
