We are looking for a qualified, skilled and experienced mental health or learning disabilities Senior Nurse who can lead and manage our developing Clinical Bed Management Service on a day to day basis. The successful candidate must have extensive experience in clinical leadership and in managing people in a pressurised health and/or social care environment.
The role of theSenior Nurse - Clinical Bed Management involvesproviding leadership and clinical expertise to ensure the effective and safe coordination of patient admissions, transfers, and discharges across inpatient services both within NSFT and in other out of trust/out of area hospitals.The Senior Nurse will also be responsible and accountable for ensuring all related information is accurate, timely and shared across localities and the wider Trust, as required. The role involves liaison and networking with senior personnel across partner organisations, representing Clinical Bed Management and NSFT at specific forums.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the effective management of the Clinical Bed Management service, ensuring adequate resources are assigned across Triage/central Clinical Bed Management allocation service, localities and out of trust hospital placements.
* The appointed Senior Nurse will have a clinical background and will be required to co-ordinate and guide the implementation of the Trust's admission and discharge policies in consultation and in collaboration with Locality and corporate personnel.
* The role will also be responsible for: analysing, monitoring and forecasting trends in respect of admissions, CRfD, ALOS and discharges; direct and overall resource management of the department, including continuous quality audit and performance measures specific to the clinical bed management function; ensuring the application of best practice including the generation of action plans to continuously improve the effectiveness of the clinical bed management function.
* Leadership and Management:provide professional, operational, and clinical leadership to the clinical bed management team and junior staff, including clinical and managerial supervision, performance review, and team/service development.
* Data and Reporting: responsible for ensuring accurate record-keeping and data collection regarding trust and out of trust/out of area bed utilisation, capacity, and demand.
About us
The Clinical Bed Management Service is a team of experienced and skilled mental health experts whose main aim is to ensure that NSFT's patient population can access the necessary assessment and care they require at the right time, in the right place from the right service. The Service is made up of Clinical Bed Managers and Discharge Coordinators supported by a dedicated Medical Director for Patient Pathways in Acute Care & Flow. We work across all adult and older adult inpatient pathways and collaborate with inpatient and community MDT's both within NSFT and sometimes external to the Trust if our patient is receiving their inpatient treatment elsewhere. Our Service is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective use of the Trusts inpatient resources and for eradicating the use of out of Trust hospital placements. This post is critical in the Trust meeting its related financial and out of area targets.

Qualifications
* Professional qualification in health or social care.
* Master's level qualification in management or leadership or equivalent relevant experience
* Experience of managing mental health services
Knowledge
* Good working knowledge of wider health and social care system and structures and legislations relevant to service areas.
* Knowledge of management tools, organisational systems and processes relevant to managing in an NHS organisation
* Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and national drivers underpinning services for people with mental health problems
