Overview

FM Assistant. Band 2 - £24,465 per annum pro rota. Independent Living Centre, Bishops Stortford.

Hours currently Monday to Friday 16:00 to 18:00 (2 hours a day, 10 hours a week). Some flexibility with the times for a suitable candidate.

To participate in the provision of the in-house FM services to a specified area within the Trust, which may include in-patient areas and retail outlets: The FM services comprises of the cleaning, catering, portering, bed making and laundering services, however some of these services are unit specific. Therefore sections of this job description may not be relevant to all staff and will be identified where appropriate but are not exhaustive.

You must be aware of the important part you play in maintaining the environment to an excellent standard.

You must also be aware that your work will involve working alongside patients and occasionally interacting with them as you carry out your duties outlined below.

You will be working as part of the Facilities Team and are expected to have a flexible approach to your duties.

You will be working as a valued member of the Estates & Facilities Management Team.

The Estates & Facilities Department is responsible for delivering high quality and cost effective services across Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Important Notice: Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021 requires vaccination for those directly employed to work in a Care Home or deployed to a CQC registered care home, unless exempt. This is a requirement of this role and will form part of pre-employment checks.


Key Responsibilities

* Domestic Service including Rapid Response (CAT): ensure ward areas are cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for those ward areas. This includes vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing and mopping floors; high and low dusting; wiping and polishing surfaces, cleaning toilets, sinks, baths and showers; cleaning kitchen appliances; defrosting fridges; restocking consumables; descaling taps; and correct waste disposal.
* Work with supervisor to review area work schedules to ensure they are manageable and appropriate; inform supervisor of any problems affecting the ability to clean areas properly.
* Use colour coded cleaning materials and store properly to prevent cross-infection; report any deterioration in product quality or substitution of products; use only Trust-provided chemicals and follow training for their use.
* Operate and report faults for machinery/equipment; keep equipment clean and maintain safe working practices, including use of signs and circuit breakers where appropriate.
* Store equipment and cleaning materials securely; report any security concerns or unlocked storerooms at shift start.
* Dispose of general, recyclable and clinical waste correctly; raise issues where waste segregation or disposal is not correct.
* Food Services (where applicable): assist with regeneration process of cook chill meals by taking and recording temperatures prior to regeneration; prepare soups, gravies and custards; ensure temperatures are recorded and meals are plated for patient service; ensure oven gloves and cloths are laundered; assist with serving and clearing meals where applicable; clean crockery and cutlery used for meals.
* Laundry Service (where applicable to specified sites): launder patient clothing, duvet covers, duvets and curtains; re-process items not meeting standard; label patient items; keep dirty items separate from clean items; maintain laundry cleanliness and complete cleaning checklists; ensure laundry machinery is kept clean and faults reported.
* Portering: carry out routine tasks including delivery of pharmacy boxes, medical records, clean linen, meals, and other stores; collect waste and linen; sort, deliver and collect mail where applicable; support ad-hoc tasks including transporting patients with nursing staff as required; assist with site access, vehicle unloading/loading, and keeping public areas tidy; assist in emergencies and attend fire calls as per Trust procedures; participate in gritting and snow clearance when required; help keep waste compound and storage areas clean.


Requirements

* Right to work in the UK.
* Vaccination requirement as per Health and Social Care Act/Regulations for care home deployment, unless exempt.
