Offer description

The Acute and Integrated Community Care Directorate at Macclesfield District General Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic ST3+ level registrar to join the Acute Medicine team on a fixed‑term LAS contract for 12 months.

This post will run from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027, coinciding with the opening of a new 8‑bed Acute Medical Receiving Unit (AMRU) in June 2026. The role is Monday to Friday 09:00‑17:00, with no on‑call requirement.

The post holder will be deployed flexibly across all acute and general medical areas as required, including front‑door services, inpatient wards, and escalation areas. The role is not tied to a single unit.


Main duties of the job

Total hours: 40 per week (Monday‑Friday 09:00‑17:00), no on‑call requirement.

* Assessment and management of patients across acute and general medical areas
* Attendance at and input into consultant ward rounds
* Liaising with multidisciplinary teams to formulate management plans
* Ensuring results are reviewed and acted on promptly
* Participation in Quality Improvement projects
* Supporting and supervising junior colleagues
* Undertaking tasks as requested by senior staff

The basic salary for this role is outlined above based on a 40‑hour working week. Enhancements for additional rostered hours (over 40), night rate hours and weekend working allowance will be paid in line with the relevant Nodal Point under the Junior Doctor Contract 2016 pay scales. The value of the enhancement can be provided upon request, subject to any future rota changes in line with service need.

Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment and hold the following qualifications:


Qualification

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians) Part 1


Eligibility

* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice (including good clinical care, maintaining good medical practice, good relationships and communication with patients, good relationships with colleagues, good teaching and training, professional behaviour and probity, delivery of good acute clinical care, 12 months NHS experience)
* Able to operate effectively on‑call out of hours as a sole medical registrar if required


Fitness to Practise

* Applicant's knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely


Clinical Skills

* Acute care safe: up‑to‑date ALS, experience of working at night and out of hours
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job
* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions, managing risk, knowing when to seek help, prioritising clinical need
* Practical skills: aptitude for required practical skills in the job
* Effective communication skills: clear written and spoken communication, adapting language appropriately, liaising with patients, relatives and colleagues across disciplines
* Empathy and sensitivity: listens and considers others’ perspectives
* Works in partnership with patients: always considers patients’ preferences when discussing treatment options
* Considers the full impact of clinical decisions on patients, practice shared decision making, direct and support patients to access information needed to support decision making


Other Role Requirements

* Requires an Enhanced with Barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; the cost is payable by the successful candidate
* If lived or worked abroad for 6 months or more in the last 5 years, an overseas police clearance is required
* Applicant must be able to operate on the rota as outlined above
