Job summary
The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Haywards Heath is part of the University Hospital Sussex NHS Trust which has 4 acute teaching hospitals.
We provide District General hospital services to our local population in and around Brighton and Hove, Mid Sussex and the western part of East Sussex and more specialised and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the South East of England.
The Urology department at PRH has expanded recently due to the opening of our new Urology Investigation and Treatment Centre (UITC), and there is now the opportunity for a Band 7 Sonographer to join the team.
The post holder will work to support the Urology team and the Lead Sonographer in the provision of a professional ultrasound service. They will need to be able to perform and report independently on a wide range of ultrasound examinations. They will be required to perform Lithotripsy (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy - ESWL), for the treatment of renal and ureteric stones, for which they should have a willingness to learn and training will be given as necessary.

You must be enthusiastic with excellent communication skills in order to liaise effectively with the multi-disciplinary teams and strive to provide high standards of care. You will be highly motivated and dedicated to your role and own personal developmen. Ideally you would have experience in urology or cancer settings.
The urology team comprises of committed and supportive Consultants, Nurse Specialists, Sonographer and other junior members. Working collaboratively we aim to ensure that our patients are supported and cared for to a standard that ensures excellent patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Job responsibilities
1. To support Urology team in the provision of a professional ultrasound service.
2. To perform and report independently on a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
3. To perform extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL).
4. To produce appropriate written reports for the medical profession and keep accurate records using a combination of CRIS, Viewpoint and PACS
5. Communicate potentially distressing diagnoses directly to patients and refer accordingly.
6. Maintain a high standard of patient care and medical ethics
7. Participate in CPD and other developmental activities and actively take part in departmental research/audit
8. Supervise the clinical training of Student Sonographers and other Radiology personnel.
9. Supervise and mentor recently qualified Sonographers
10. To help maintain the high standards of the urology and ultrasound department and to encourage working as a team with all members of staff.
