We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our team in Grimsby.
This is a hands-on role supporting the Head of Finance across a wide range of operational, analytical, andpliance activities. You’ll play a key part in managing financial processes, improving systems, and delivering insightful reporting to support decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Managing & Supporting
1. Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, expenses, and credit control.
2. Support collections and manage GRNI balances.
3. Lead month-end close activities including ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
4. Manage weekly cash flow and approve payables.
5. Act as escalation point for AR/AP issues.
6. Maintain the fixed asset register and support invoice financing reconciliation.
7. Coordinate year-end close and liaise with external auditors and accountants.
8. Assist with legal andpany Secretary duties.
9. Provide ad hoc support to the Head of Finance and Directors.
Analysis, Reporting & Planning
10. Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts withmentary.
11. Prepare weekly flash reports and other periodic financial updates.
12. Support costing analysis and operational reporting (yield, labour, wastage).
13. Analyse sales, margins, labour, and overheads.
14. Collaborate with budget holders on forecasts and monthly reviews.
15. Prepare reports for banks, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
16. Produce ad hoc reports and support senior management as needed.
17. Document and improve financial processes and internal controls.
18. Review policies to enhance cash flow and operational efficiency.
19. Ensurepliance with accounting standards and statutory obligations.
20. Drive continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.
21. Support ERP system implementation and management.
22. Ensure timelypletion of regulatory reports and R&D grant applications.
23. Maintain accuracy across all financial ledgers and reconciliations.
Skills & Experience Required
24. AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA (or equivalent).
25. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a finance role.
26. Experience in food manufacturing is highly desirable.
27. Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
28. High IT literacy, especially in Excel and Microsoft Office.
29. Experience with Xero is a strong advantage.
30. Excellent organisational andmunication skills.
31. Proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
32. A proactive, accountable team player who strives for continuous improvement.
