Overview

Our Lead & Thrive strategy has 3 key tenets - to dominate our chosen sectors, drive up profitability, and be the best place to work at and with - and our PR and media profile plays a critical part in each. There is commitment at the most senior level to recruit an experienced and proactive PR professional to drive awareness of what we're about for clients and for prospective talent. We need the legal press, national media and sector-specific news platforms to think 'RPC' across our chosen sectors and specialist services. You will possess and build powerful relationships in the media landscape and work collaboratively with a close-knit communications and business development team. This is a senior role at the heart of the strategy with regular exposure to senior stakeholders and the go-to person on anything that impacts the public perception of the firm. Geographically, this role is responsible for PR strategy and delivery primarily in the UK, with advisory capacity for Asia.

Key internal relationships include a close partnership with the Managing Partner, the COO, the Director of BCM, the Head of Marketing Communications, Internal Communications, Digital Marketing, and all Business Development colleagues. The Senior PR Manager is a key member of Brand, Clients & Markets (BCM) and will have significant face time with senior leaders.


Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver measurable PR plans in support of the firm's strategy, focusing on RPC's five core sectors: Consumer Brands & Retail, Financial Services, Insurance & Reinsurance, Professional Practices and Technology, Media & Telecoms. Embed the firm's culture into profile-raising opportunities.
* Establish and maintain relationships with key legal, national and sector media.
* Build and foster profitable relations with journalists and media outlets across target markets (national, legal and sector-specific).
* Deploy PR and broader communications tactics to position RPC as an expert in its fields.
* Integrate PR with other marketing tactics, collaborating with social media and content teams for maximum impact.
* Develop and deliver broader strategic external communications plans using a range of media.
* Handle crisis communications with calm authority and appropriate confidentiality.
* Provide flexible copywriting and editorial guidance in support of firm and practice area goals.
* Be the contact point and hub for incoming media queries; proactively manage media relations and maintain relations with critical journalists.
* Manage relationships with RPC's PR agencies and oversee service delivery; conduct tenders when required.
* Manage PR-related suppliers such as media monitoring agencies and oversee budget expenditure.
* Monitor, measure and report on PR investment; provide media training and guidance as needed.
* In the broader communications area, work with the Head of Marketing Communications to implement best practices and improve processes; collaborate with Internal Communications on multi-channel campaigns including change programmes, cross-selling, business wins, project engagement and BAU milestones.
* Work with the Social Media Manager and digital team to extend PR impact across external channels.
* Lead copywriting and editing to ensure content lands with impact and adheres to house style; liaison with production teams as needed.
* Research, write and edit award submissions.
* Line manage and develop the Senior PR Executive.


Reporting and Internal Relationships

Reports to: Head of Marketing Communications, PR/Media. This role offers significant face time with senior people, including the Managing Partner, Executive Board members, sector leads, the COO and Business Services Directors.


Qualifications and Skills

* Proven experience in developing and delivering PR and communications strategies within a professional services environment (ideally legal).
* Rich understanding of PR and how the media works; strong existing relationships with key target media (legal, national, sector).
* Adept at scenario planning and crisis readiness; excellent editorial and writing skills with ability to adapt across styles; strong understanding of house style and tone of voice.
* Highly organized with strong communication and presentation skills; excellent project management.
* Good grasp of the legal market and brand positioning; ideally CIM/CIPR-qualified.
* Strong team player with solutions- and delivery-focused mindset; calm under pressure; able to see how activities fit the bigger picture.
* Proactive, self-motivated, independent thinker with excellent influencing skills.
* Flexible and adaptable with a common-sense approach; committed to professional credibility and impact.
