Principal Project Manager

Mining Remediation Authority is looking for a Principal Project Manager to lead safety‑critical national projects that protect communities and the environment across Scotland, England and Wales. The successful candidate will inspire a multi‑site team, manage high‑impact projects under NEC4 contracts, and champion compliance, assurance and value for money.

About You

* Leadership that lifts others: You coach, set clear expectations, and create psychological safety so people can deliver at their best.
* Portfolio delivery at scale: You have led complex construction/engineering projects or programmes, balancing time, cost and quality while maintaining risk, assurance and audit readiness.
* Calm in the moment: You prioritise and decide in an emergency‑response context, keeping colleagues, customers and communities at the centre.
* Clear communication: You translate complex information so it’s actionable for residents, partners and colleagues.
* Collaborative trust builder: You work well with internal teams, local partners and suppliers to achieve safe, compliant, value‑for‑money outcomes.
* Nice to have: Familiarity with NEC4 contracts, public‑sector procurement, health & safety legislation, and coal mining subsidence legislation.
* Mobility: Able to travel for meetings and site visits across Scotland, England and Wales, including overnight stays.

In This Role, You Will

* Lead and inspire operational teams and project managers, fostering a collaborative and supportive culture.
* Administer projects under NEC4 contracts, ensuring compliance, value for money, and robust governance.
* Champion a positive and responsive customer experience, acting as a trusted point of contact for residents, partners, and stakeholders.
* Manage a varied portfolio, prioritising effectively, balancing competing demands, and proactively managing risk.
* Apply construction, engineering or geotechnical experience (mining experience welcome but not essential).

We welcome different ways of thinking. If you’re unsure whether you meet every point, please apply—skills can be developed and we value transferable experience.
