Overview
This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to combine NHS clinical activity with a formal commitment to academic clinical teaching and research. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a full-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. This post attracts 10 PA's in total, 6 PAs for NHS activities based at UHMB (Lancaster) with the remaining 4 devoted to an academic role at the School of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). This post gives the opportunity to join the oral and maxillofacial department to provide the restorative consultant input to which a formal university academic component is added. The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan in Preston and the potential for work at other NHS sites including serving both Lancashire and South Cumbria patients. For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable. The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLAN. The teams has recently been joined by an Honorary Consultant in Endodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area. There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay. There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support.
Responsibilities
* Provide restorative consultant input to the oral and maxillofacial department with a formal university academic component.
* Meet NHS commitments (6 PAs) based at UHMB; participate in teaching and research activities through UCLan as part of the 4 academic PAs.
* Contribute to teaching for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students and collaborate with the UCLan dental team.
* Engage with potential development opportunities in Endodontics as the team expands.
* Utilise available facilities including the electronic EPR and PACs system, the maxillofacial laboratory, and supported technical staff.
Location and duties
The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan in Preston and potential work at other NHS sites across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and on the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry.
* Successfully completed, or be within 6 months of an SAC approved training in restorative dentistry or equivalent at the time of interview.

* We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, with additional community facilities including Millom Hospital and GP Practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
* FGH and the RLI have General Hospital services with Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.
* All three main hospitals offer planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, along with local outreach services and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.
