Project Worker - Children & Young People’s Services Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you thrive in a dynamic, creative, and people-focused role? You’ll join a group of experienced, motivated colleagues who believe in the power of youth voice, inclusion, and early intervention. This role is not eligible for sponsorship as is does not meet the requirements as set out by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. What You’ll Be Doing We are looking for flexible bank sessional workers who can provide support on an as-needed basis (covering sickness, holidays and additional project work) at Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. When asked to work, this would usually be between the hours of 9:30am and 8:30pm, Mondays to Fridays. As a Project Worker, you’ll play a vital role in supporting young people by delivering a wide range of engaging interventions and informal education - including drop-ins, one-to-one sessions, group work, outreach, presentations, workshops, stalls, and social media. You can expect to cover a range of areas, including positive relationships, C-Card, drug & alcohol, emotional wellbeing, employability, budgeting, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, physical assault, bullying & harassment (including cyber bullying), social media, digital safety, and early mental health difficulties. You will be a champion for youth voice, actively gathering feedback, amplifying young people’s perspectives, and embedding their participation into the development and continuous improvement of our services. Collaboration is key in this role. You’ll work closely with parents, social care, schools, youth and community organisations, and other professionals connected to the young person’s support network. Where needed, you’ll make appropriate referrals to our colleagues, partner services, or external agencies to ensure holistic support. A strong commitment to safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality, health and safety, and maintaining accurate case notes is essential. About you Before applying to this role, please ensure you read the attached job description and person specification, which explains all the essential criteria we are looking for. Below is a summary of this: Minimum of Diploma in Youth & Community Work or Social Work qualification, Level 2 Counselling, or other relevant professional vocational qualification and/or education equivalent to NVQ Level 4. Recent experience of delivering one-to-one, outreach work, informal education group work/training activities with young people 11-25yrs. This includes significant experience in the topics of mental health, self-harm, suicidal feelings, and sexual health work. Ability to research, develop and deliver informal education sessions/programmes/workshops in a creative young person friendly way including handling sensitive issues in a non-judgemental manner. Able to use a variety of interventions to help support young people and their families’ overcome difficulties in their lives. Knowledge of the issues/trends experienced by young people, and professional issues relating to working with young people. Comfortable using digital technology, including mobile apps, online resources, social media, and Outlook. Must be able to meet the travel requirements for this post, and work at times when young people require access to the service (including evenings and weekends).
