We are looking to appoint a Chief Clinical Technologist / Healthcare Scientist (specialising in Therapeutic and Technical Nuclear Medicine) to work within the Nuclear Medicine Department at Singleton Hospital in Swansea.

The Nuclear Medicine service at Singleton Hospital has two state-of-the art SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, bone densitometry, a mobile PET-CT service, inpatient radionuclide therapy and gamma counting facilities. There are plans to develop the radionuclide therapy service on the site, adding Ra223 therapies to the service and with the aspiration of adding Lu177 therapies in the future. There are also plans for a new permanent PET-CT facility on the site. This role will be part of the scientific and technical nuclear medicine team.

The post holder will develop staff training programs and manage technical services for radioactivity management and equipment quality control. The post holder will deliver, manage and coordinate clinical work for non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services.

Applicants who do not currently meet the skills and competences for the band 7 role may be considered for appointment under annex 21 rules supported by a development plan for up to 3 years. During the first-year payment will be 65% of the top rate of band 7 pay, second year 70% and third year 75%, subject to criteria within the development plan being met.

Main duties of the job

The role will include delivering clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services for patients, including radiopharmaceutical ordering, drawing-up and administration. There is also a requirement to work in radioactive waste management and equipment quality control and to support staff training and mentoring.

We are looking for an applicant with work experience in the following areas:

1. Phlebotomy and cannulation and intravenous administration of radiopharmaceuticals
2. Aseptic dispensing and administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals
3. Radioactive waste management
4. Technical management
5. Radiation safety
6. Quality Control testing of radiation detection equipment
7. Standard infection control process relating to intravenous administrations
8. Staff training
9. Team management

10. B.Sc (Hons) in Nuclear Medicine / Radiography / Science B.Sc./Pg.Cert./Pg.Dip./M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine; Registered Clinical Technologist with RCT or Registered Healthcare Science Practitioner with AHCS or Registered Therapy Radiographer with HCPC
